The SolidStore is a portable offload and backup unit designed to fit into the production and post-production workflows of modern file-based and solid-state digital video and film acquisition.

SolidStore has been designed to simplify the process of offloading and safely storing the files generated in file-based production (such as with RED One, Panasonic’s P2* cameras, and Sony XDCAM EX*).

Presently these files have to be copied as soon as possible from the capture medium for further use, and ideally to more than one device to provide data redundancy in the case of a hardware failure. This is a time-consuming process, and one which lacks any standard procedure, each user develops their own method. The high possibility of human error in a high-pressure situation is also a concern with existing manual procedures.

SolidStore addresses this by offering a ‘one stop’ solution to the copy and backup process. The user simply has to insert the card, or connect the drive, ‘press go’ and wait while the contents are copied (and verified on the fly) to the dual removable drive cartridges. Data is copied in a quick and hassle-free way, the built-in LCD display provides feedback on the copying process, and a green status LED indicates the process is complete.

  • Flexible
    The SolidStore has been designed with a flexible hardware platform. With simple software and optional hardware upgrades it will be able to be expanded to support additional formats and systems as they appear.
  • Expandable Redundant Storage
    Unlike many other devices designed for other markets or users, the SolidStore offers infinitely expandable storage with hot-swappable drive cartridges. The dual drives feature software mirroring, ensuring that all data is replicated on both, however being standalone (non-RAID) drives, each can stand alone when connected to a computer.
  • Multiple Formats
    SolidStore     features native support for media from the RED, Panasonic P2* and XDCAM EX* systems, and will be expanded to other formats as they arrive. Additionally the ‘Raw Copy’ feature will duplicate data from any supported device (USB drive, CF card etc) to the on-board drives, but lacks the meda-aware features present with supprted formats.
  • Compact and Portable
    With a small form-factor and operating from a 12V DC power source, the SolidStore is portable and easy to use when on location away from mains power.
  • Network Support
    Featuring a Gigabit Ethernet connection, the SolidStore is visible to connected computers as a shared network device, allowing easy access to stored media for review on location. Additionally, with the supplied synchronization software the SolidStore can be plugged into an office network and left to synchronize with an existing network server, or workstation, overnight.
  • Media Aware
    With support for the various metadata formats provided in each of the supported file types SolidStore can perform basic metadata translation, generating metadata files that can be supported in various NLE systems.
  • Media Database
    The onboard media database record details of all clips that have been transferred on the system. Metadata and project details are tracked, as well as which drives the media was duplicated to.
  • Multi-Use Drive Cartridges
    Our drive cartridges are non-proprietary removable 2.5″ SATA hard drives (available in sizes from 160 - 500GB). The drives, once removed from the SolidStore can be mounted in a computer (a 3.5″ drive bay is available) or with the addition of the included cable and power supply can be used as an eSATA drive on any computer, or as a USB drive with an optional adapter.
